- Labor federation calls for strikes

6 March 2003. The spring labor struggle appears to have
begun. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has called
for a series of strikes beginning with a general strike by
the Korea Metal Workers Federation. The Federation of
Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), the country’s other
major labor federation, is not calling for strikes now,
saying it wants collective bargaining to proceed through
April.
- No Letup in Strikes as KCTU

Ilbo, 25 June 2003. The participation rate is far
lower than the 12,000 participating in the
Confederation’s June 22 strike. The KCTU also held
rallies in 18 regions, demanding the abolition of the
National Education Information System (NEIS). The Korean
Public Officials Union’s 500 members also held a
rally at Jongmyo Park, demanding three labor
rights—to organize, negotiate and to take group
action.
- Umbrella Group Plans Mass Strike

Trade Unions will stage a general strike July 23-24 to try
to block a bill to establish a five-day workweek that it
says worsens working conditions.
