Sinn Fein, the political expression of Irish Republicanism and the party with close ties to the Irish Republican Army, met in Dublin the weekend of February 25-26, 1995 for its annual meeting. (Ard Fheis--ard esh--in Gaelic).
At this meeting, the delegates assembled from all over Ireland passed the following resolution concerning the US embargo against Cuba:
That This Ard Fheis unreservedly condemns as a disgrace the Dublin government's decision to instruct its representative at the United Nations to abstain on the recent vote condemning the United States trade embargo against Cuba.
The Cuban economy has been crippled because of the U.S. blockade. Its retention by the U.S. government at this time, with the Cold War over, exposes the real reason behind the blockade-- Washington's distaste for Cuba's government and the Cuban revolution which established a society surpassing any in Latin America in terms of social equality.
