The Anglo-American Axis in general
The relation of other West Asian
states to the Anglo-American war on Iraq
- Israel’s Proxy War?
- By M. Shahid Alam, Media Monitors Network, 18 February
2003. The war United States is ready to wage against Iraq
has almost nothing to do with its security. Why then is
United States straining to go to war against Iraq? The
argument popular on the left that it’s about oil is not
credible. Idea of this being a civilizational war flies in
the face of some obvious facts. This may not be
America’s war at all, but an Israel’s war
against the Arabs fought through a proxy.
- Israeli special forces join ‘secret
front’ in Jordan
- By Ian Cobain and Stephen Farrell, London Times, 3 March 2003. Special
forces from the U.S. and Britain are conducting long-range
reconnaissance missions into Iraq from Jordan, and Israeli
forces are also said to be involved. Because of Jordanian
popular sensibilities,
It is a very discreet operation,
but the special forces are certainly there.
- U.S. Reportedly Has OKd Israeli Retaliation
if Iraq Attacks
- By Paul Richter, Los Angeles
Times, 7 March 2003. In a marked departure from the
U.S. approach during the Persian Gulf War, the Bush
administration has signaled that it would accept an
Israeli retaliation against a devastating Iraqi missile
attack. If an attack is not catastrophic but still
significant, the two sides would consider the specifics
and discuss whether Israel or the U.S. should
respond.
- Israel Says It Wants to Stay Out of Iraq
War
- By Jeffrey Heller, Reuters, 20 March 2003. Foreign
Minister Silvan Shalom said on Thursday Israel had no
plans to be sucked into the war against Iraq. The
U.S. gave Israel 90 minutes advance notification of its
initial military strikes. Palestinians reiterated fears
that Israel will step up military moves against a
2-1/2-year-old uprising for Palestinian statehood.
- Some thoughts about the war
- By Uri Avnery, 22 March 2003. Sharon is the real father
of the Shiite force in Lebanon. Bush may well become the
father of Shiite power in Iraq. When The Shiite majority
realize that the Americans intend to stay in Iraq, they
will start a deadly guerilla war. Bush does not intend to
leave Iraq, as Sharon did not intend to leave
Lebanon. America will argue that Iran, the great Shiite
neighbor, is behind the Shiite guerilla. In Iran there is
a lot of oil.
- Israel at the ready
- By Ferry Biederman, Asia
Times, 20 March 2003. Israel has been preparing for
months for a war in Iraq, and the government has welcomed
the US ultimatum to Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein. Although Scud missiles no longer much of a threat
to Israel, local reports claim that Israeli special forces
are already operating in western Iraq to prevent any
launch.
