Kazocins believes his main task as Bureau Director is to ensure keeping NATO secret information in connection with Latvia's joining the North-Atlantic Alliance as well as reformation of the Latvian special services in compliance with NATO requirements.
RIGA, MAY 2 (RIA Novosti correspondent Anatoly Baranovsky)—52-year-old retired brigadier general of the British armed forces, Janis Kazocins, has been appointed new head of the Latvian National Security Service, the Bureau on Constitution Protection.
Kazocins believes his main task as Bureau Director is to ensure keeping NATO secret information in connection with Latvia's joining the North-Atlantic Alliance as well as reformation of the Latvian special services in compliance with NATO requirements. He also intends to focus on combating of international terrorism and corruption.
After his retirement from the British armed forces in 2002 Kazocins worked as Advisor to Latvian Prime Minister Einars Repse.
This April, after the Latvian National Security Council had confirmed Kazocins' appointment as Director of the Bureau on Constitution Protection, the Seimas passed an immediate law granting him Latvian citizenship. Kazocins also preserved his British citizenship for domestic reasons, he said in his interview with journalists. His wife and children live in Great Britain.
