Municipal elections in Latvia

Municipal elections are being held across Latvia on Sunday.

The three center-right parties which govern the country are expected to hold key cities.

But the opposition Social Democratic Workers Party, which is sceptical about possible membership of the European Union, is expected to make strong gains.

Political analysts say the results may indicate a shifting political landscape in Latvia ahead of parliamentary elections due in October next year.
