Emergency situation emerges at coalmine in Khakasia
Itar-Tass, 17 May 2004. 139 coalminers went on a hunger strike over long wage arrears. Services stopped pumping underground waters at the coalmine Yeniseiskaya in Chernogorsk, Khakasia. According to the chairman of the coalmine trade union committee, mountain rescuers cannot work, as the power line feeding the coalmine happened to be in the fire area and was switched off.
Khakassia miners on hunger strike for seventh day
Itar-Tass, 23 May 2004. A total of 175 miners, including 50 women, continue a hunger strike at the private Yeniseiskaya colliery in the Khakassia Republic. It started seven days ago over months-long wage arrears.
