campus by more than 2,000 students calling for
reunification with communist North Korea.

was found to have been virtually manipulated by North
Korea’s ruling Workers Party, the Seoul prosecution
authorities reported yesterday.

Headquarters
- Korea Herald, 8 May 1997. Six
student radicals, three women and three men, briefly
occupied part of the scandal-ridden Hanbo Business Group
headquarters, demanding the arrest of South Korean
President Kim Young-Sam and his son.

riot police, demanding the resignation of President Kim
Young-Sam, whose son has been implicated in alleged
influence peddling.

lobbed firebombs at police at an anti-government rally
Saturday, demanding that President Kim Young-Sam resign
over a bribery scandal.
- Students face mass arrests

1997. South Korean authorities are preparing to arrest
more than 500 student leaders for refusing to renounce
their membership in the Federation of Korean University
Student Unions (Hanchongryon). Hundreds of students were
already arrested in sweeps after mass demonstrations in
early June against President Kim Young Sam.
