China's legislators are said to have drafted the country's first law aimed at protecting the welfare of maids and other home workers in the southern economic zone of Shenzhen.
The official China Daily says complaints about maltreatment have become common in the city as migrants from poorer areas of China have flooded one of the nation's largest markets for family services.
The new regulations in Shenzhen were drafted in November and are expected to take effect soon, providing a framework for solving mounting disputes between domestic workers and their employers.
