[CND, 06/18/01] Former Taiwan president Lee Teng-hui is to work with President Chen Shui-bian to help the Democratic Progressive Party to win the December legislative election, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.
Lee appeared with Chen on Saturday on a public gathering and urged the public to support Chen’s administration, even though Lee is a member of the opposition party Kuomintang.
Lee’s move made it more evident that he intends to support pro-independence politicians.
The December election is an opportunity for the ruling party to win the majority in the legislature which is now controlled by the Kuomintang.
