---------- Forwarded message ---------- Yet a further attack in KazakhstanRob in Moscow, 8 August 1998This morning received yet a further call for help from Kentau in South Kazakhstan. After the court decision to shut down the free trade unions in Kentau, their "liquidation" has begun. Members are being visited and interrogated sometimes at 2 in the morning. This coincides with a new strike at Kentau's power station and a strike at the Chinaware factory in nearby Chimkent. Most worrying is that a source has said that the KNB have been told to "take out" (in other word's physically liquidate) Genaddy Nikitin, the union's President. Please send protests demanding the lifting of the ban on the Confederation of Free Trade Union's in Kentau and warning of further action if any of the trade union leaders are attcked by the KNB to your nearest Kazakhstan Embassy.
