PATUAKHALI, Nov 27: Repression on women has increased alarmingly in different areas of Barisal region and its adjacent areas.
Alarming rise in abduction, rape and killing of women in Barisal region has caused grave concern among the conscious section of the society. According to sources, from June to first week of October this year as many as 27 incidents of repression on women occurred in this region. Police sources said, of the 27 incidents, 12 were abduction of women and children, 11 were rape and four were killings. Most of the criminals are at large, it is gathered.
Informed sources said, on October 5 a girl student of class seven was kidnapped from near the Nahar cinema hall in Gournadi Sadar Thana. On September 29 a girl 10, was kidnapped by some miscreants from Bhatikhana area in Barisal town.
On 27 September a housewife of Char-Badna in Amanatganj was allegedly raped by Md. Lal Miah, President of Hatkhala unit of Jatiya Sramik Party. A case was filed in this connection.
On September 25 a girl student of class nine was kidnapped on her way to school from village Maluhar in Banaripara Thana. On the same day Bidhan Sikder raped a minor girl at a village in Bakerganj Thana.
On September 20, six terrorists reaped two girls on their way to Dapdapia launch ghat. On September 29, police arrested Bellal (20), Manir (21), Mazibar (22) and Azad (23) in connection with the incident. On 20 September, three miscreants abducted a girl from village Betal in Banaripara Thana.
On 15 September, mother of three children was killed at a village in Uzirpur Thana by her husband Khalilur Rahman as the victim tried to prevent her husband from illicit relation with another woman.
