HALIFAX, Nov. 18 -- The Nova Scotia Teachers Union has issued a province-wide strike warning to school boards and parents following an 88.8 percent vote of support taken Friday in all schools.
John MacDonald said Saturday afternoon, "our provincial executive and Local presidents met for the day and have authorized a strike for next week. The strike will be called following a minimum of 48 hours notice to withdraw services.''
The NSTU president said teachers will not settle for less than satisfactory changes to the proposed Education Act. These must include maintenance of the integrity of current collective agreements and existing bargaining units.
If changes are not made by the Minister of Education and Culture Monday evening in the meeting of the Law Amendments committee, schools will close next week.''
MacDonald said "our teachers are united and firmly committed in their resolve to save our education system!''
