T&T trade union leader calls for strike, protest actionCANA Online, 22 June 2000Port of Spain, Trinidad, CANA - A top trade unionist has called on workers and labour leaders in Trinidad and Tobago to stage a nationwide one-day general strike to be followed by a week of protest demonstrations. Errol McCleod, the President General of the Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU) said the objective of these actions was to force the Basdeo Panday administration to address the fundamental problems of people. But McCleod did not indicate a date for the general strike or the beginning of the protest week.
