Tensions resurface in St Lucia health sector

Castries, St. Lucia, CANA - Tensions resurfaced in the island's health sector Friday over a disagreement as to the posting of security officials at the mental health hospital. The Nurses Association had been given assurances by Labour Minister Velon John that consideration would be given to providing security for nurses who felt threatened following a number of violent attacks by patients at the institution. The attacks and subsequent suspension of three nurses from the hospital who allegedly injured a patient in an attempt to subdue him, led to protest action by nurses earlier this week, who called for protection on the job.
