Subject: Arawk-Deni of Amazonia
I am Luigi Fabbro of the Amazon Association www.amazonia.org. The
Amazon Association is currently preparing the JURUA PROJECT: .
One Million Hectares of Amazon Rain Forest to be acquired, preserved
and sustainably utilized by the Indigenous Deni and Caboclo people and
worldwide civil society
The Deni speack an Arawk language, I seem to have understood from the
web page Arawak struggles in the Amazon
http://www.hartford-hwp.com/taino/links1.html (web site The Taino
Intertribal Cuncil .http://www.hartford-hwp.com/taino) that:
1. some time before the arrival of the Europeans the Arawk tribes had expanded from the Amazonian Basin
2. The Arawak/Taino descend from the Arawak of Amazonia.
Can anybody confirm me that this is correct?
Then given the similiarity of the words Deni and Taino I was wondering if the two words have the same etymology and if the Arawak-Deni and the Arawak-Taino are indeed closely related.
I would like to know more about the early Arawak History and about the Arawak Languages: could any body give me some directions.(addresses, books, e-mail ,websites).
Thank you very much
