Burundi opposition denies Rwanda linkBBC News, Saturday 25 September 1999The main opposition group in Burundi, the National Council for the Defence of Democracy or CNDD, has dismissed government allegations that they are working with Rwandan militias. A spokesman for the movement, Jerome Ndiho, told the BBC it had no relationship with the militias and wasn't involved in joint military attacks in the country. Mr Ndiho also warned armed civilians in Burundi that they risked being legitimate targets if they carried weapons. Some civilians have been allowed to arm themselves against growing rebel attacks. |
