Lagos©Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed regret over the delay in the payment of workers' salaries in the state civil service.
I must say, quite painfully, that this is the first time we are
owing workers since we assumed office,
Kalu said in Ariam, at a
reception organised in his honour by the people of Ikwuano Local
Government in the state.
I am not happy at the development, because I believe that a
labourer is entitled to his wages,
the governor added, and
explained that the development was due to the dwindling income from
the federation account.
He said, in spite of dwindling resources, his administration had continued to sustain the machinery of state and provided social infrastructure to the people.
Kalu said that his administration was working on a masterplan to develop rural communities in the state, adding that 600 communities would benefit under the programme.
He said the integrated rural development programme would include the execution of water schemes in Okwe and Ndoro, as well as the proposed 200-bed general hospital at Olori Oboro, all in Ikwuano.
