ALGIERS—The official Tunisian labor movement led by the UGTT (Union Generale des Travailleurs Tunisiens) is to organize its grassroots structures in an effort to consolidate those structures. The organization will merge many sector unions that are said to be pursuing the same goal and that are active within the same industry.
For example the Syndicate de l’Enseignement Superieur et de la Recherche Scientifique (Higher Education and Scientific Research Union) and the Syndicat des Professeurs et des MaĆ®tres de Conferences (Higher Education Professor Union) are expected to merge as a consequence of this restructuring. The goal of such reorganization is reportedly to avoid disagreements among existing unions.
Similar mergers are expected among the country’s doctors, pharmacists, dentists, etc.
